This is an exciting year for Original Appalachian Artworks and the Cabbage Patch Kid toys. 2008 marks a special anniversary for the parent company as celebrations begin to commemorate 30 years of having fun! This year, the Cabbage Patch Kids toys are also celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the introduction of Cabbage Patch Kids to the world. The expectations for 2008 and the Cabbage Patch Kids are certainly something you and your family will want to be a part of as we anticipate another year of fun.
CELEBRATION BABIES:
The Anniversary Celebration began with a continuation of the Fun to Feed Celebration baby which was first introduced in December of 2007 to kick off another year of fun beginning in January 2008. The Fun to Feed baby was designed to appeal to children and comes with a fun feature which allows the Cabbage Patch Kid to “lick” a specially designed Carvel Ice Cream cone. This adorable feature is funny to see and offers hours of play fun. The first edition was packaged with two extra outfits and a “hospital bracelet” stating “25th Premier Edition Babies”. Over 100,000 of these introductory Fun to Feed Babies were created exclusively for QVC and when they were shown the viewers went wild for them. QVC ended up adopting ALL of their special babies in less time than had been allotted to them for the show. Something else for the Cabbage Patch Kids to be excited about!
The second edition of Fun to Feed Celebration Babies was introduced in the first part of 2008 and were offered to retailers everywhere. The basic feature remained the same, but had packaging different from the QVC version with a few other differences. The 2nd edition of Fun to Feed babies is initially identified by the traditional open window package. The QVC package did not have a window. The 2nd edition will offer a new ribbon banner graphic above the logo. The “25 Year Celebration” banner identifies all 2008 Play along Cabbage Patch Kids as being part of this significant anniversary for the Cabbage Patch Kids brand.
Newborns and Lil’ Sprouts:
Also available from Play Along in 2008 are the “Drink ‘n Wet” Newborns, the Lil’ Sprouts Sparkle Party ‘n Pet Sprouts, The Sparkle Party Pony with Sprout, and two new fun play sets specifically for the Sprouts such as the Pretty Salon which will be introduced first. The Pretty Salon is a great place to take your Sprout for a beauty treatment when getting ready for one of the big celebrations taking place this year. The next new set is the Cupcake Kitchen which is an especially fun play set including a unique cup cake maker which allows you to “ice” cupcakes with different pretend “frostings”. All of these new items feature the “25 Year Celebration” banner on their packages. The Babies and Newborns have Xavier Roberts’ signature along with 25th screened in black on their bottoms.
Anniversary Kids:
Will you be able to stand this?????? The biggest news in the Play Along line for this extraordinary year is the Play Along “Anniversary Kids”. Not available for a few more months this gives you time to prepare for an amazing dash to adopt these special ‘Kids. Once they arrive you will be able to spot them right away. Packaged in the traditional slant front package, and instead of creamy yellow and green, the new packages will be white and silver signifying 25 wonderful years! The package also features a different logo than the other 25th Anniversary year Kids and Sprouts. Instead of the “25th Year Celebration” banner, the logo for these Kids has evolved from the very first Coleco logo with flowers underneath prominently featuring the “25th” in silver foil in the center of the Cabbage bud. More than just the fabulous box, it’s what’s inside that is really special!!!!!
Play Along working together with creator Xavier Roberts and the OAA team has brought back an assortment of commemorative replicas with some of the very first Coleco Cabbage Patch Kids born! Beginning with the Coleco head molds numbered 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, and 9. One of our favorite sculptors has lovingly recreated those same looks and has renumbered them as “25th Anniversary” molds (either 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, or 9) ©2008 O.A.A. INC; Play Along, China.
Not ready to stop there, OAA and Play Along have carefully selected 8 different Coleco outfit styles for girls and Big News….4 outfits especially for boys. The quality is even better than the original. Look for the popular sailor suit, the elephant romper, the knit ducky dress, the corduroy pantsuit and overall along with other favorites. The original white high top shoes, white mary janes, and a white tennis show with pink or blue stripes accent each special outfit. Also in the works is the recreation of some of the most popular hairstyles in 6 different yarn colors as well as some BALD Cabbage Patch Kids which were popular in the earliest Coleco days. And, yes you can expect to see some fuzzy haired boys out there! Each of these exciting recreations can be identified as a commemorative replica by the markings on the back of their head, and exclusive 25th Anniversary body tag and the Xavier Roberts’ signature birthmark with the 25th placed underneath in silver colored ink for this edition only.
The exact number of these Anniversary babies available worldwide has not yet been determined, but it is safe to say that this is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity for collectors and today’s parents to recapture some of their fondest memories from 25 years ago. This is also a great opportunity for new generations of children to discover what made Cabbage Patch Kids so appealing in 1983!
Celebrating All Year Long
That’s not all!!!!! Look for special promotions and advertising in this celebration year. Carvel, Burger King, and others are partnering with us to make this a yearlong Cabbage Patch Kids celebration. Don’t miss out on the fun and excitement!!!!!Keep checking with us on our website at www.cabbagepatchkids.com and also with other favorite retailers so you can be among the first to adopt these extra special Cabbage Patch Kid Anniversary Kids! Be part of 25 Years of Delivering Fun.

Groundbreaking Held For The New
BabyLand General® Hospital
Cleveland, Ga. – On Thursday, May 3, creator of the Cabbage Patch Kids® Xavier Roberts reached a new milestone with the official groundbreaking for a new “BabyLand General Hospital,” home of the world famous Cabbage Patch Kids.
Located off Hulsey Road in Cleveland, Georgia, surrounded by a panoramic view of the beautiful Appalachian Mountains, the new BabyLand General will have the look of a graceful, columned Southern Style Home. Granite-faced, Mt. Yonah, which plays a prominent role in the history of the Cabbage Patch Kids, will be clearly visible from the new site.
Following a brief message from Cleveland Mayor Don Stanley, Attorney General Johnny Chattin from the V Georgia Tribe of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation was invited to honor the rich Native American heritage of the area by performing a sacred ceremonial ground blessing for the protection and guidance of our future generations of children.
Family, friends, associates and a number of Cabbage Patch Kid Collectors joined Xavier as he launched this exciting new chapter in the history of the 30 year old phenomenon.
Construction of a 70,000 square foot building on 96 acres will begin immediately with anticipated completion in time to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Cabbage Patch Kids licensing program in 2008.
The new structure will include retail space, offices, a historical archive of the Cabbage Patch Kids as well as the Southern Appalachian region, a meeting and conference facility, warehouse and offices as well as be recognized as the “home place” to 110 million Cabbage Patch Kids and their adoptive parents worldwide.
Xavier, dedicated to his roots, has kept his hometown of Cleveland as headquarters to his worldwide operation, Original Appalachian Artworks Inc., which includes Licensing, Internet Sales, New Product Development, Administration and the “Cabbage Patch,” where babies are still hand-stitched to birth.
Mother Cabbage will continue to deliver to the public, with the assistance of LPN’s (Licensed Patch Nurses) and doctors, at the current site (73 W. Underwood St., Cleveland, Ga.) until the new BabyLand is complete.
Beautiful Mt. Yonah will be visible from the new hospital.
